Virgin Free Fest was a truly unique experience. Three stages played vastly different music. You could go to one stage and enjoy the guitar heavy jams of Jack White. Then move to another stage that pumped out fist pumping electronica ALL DAY. Then another stage you could enjoy a wide variety from Nas to Skrillex.

I got my first digital SLR at the end of high school just in time for a cross country trip. After receiving my Nikon D80 I set out for a California to Virginia adventure. My friend Jacob and I spent 3ish weeks driving, diving and exploring this beautiful country.

 

This photo helps exemplify what I love about photography. The moment. That space of time in which people show their true selves. It’s not posed. There isn’t fancy lighting. It’s just people and their true emotions. Every time I brush past this photo I get a small reminder of where I have come from creatively, and how I can’t imagine where I’ll be going in the future.

I finally have access to a dark room!

There is something simple and beautiful about shooting on black and white film. There is the obvious inability to look at what you have done. But in this inability comes the peace and beautiful of film. It brings calm back into the art of picture taking. I love the action and excitement of capturing the moment, but it’s always healthy to stop and take some film shots.

You have 24 chances to get something beautiful, so it better be good.

 

 

In the meanwhile here is a quick shot of my camera of choice.A Canon A1 that my father used to own. It’s a classic.
